Normally, people who are under depression face so many emotionally, mentally and physically changes. It takes more time to get recover from it. But depression in pregnancy has double chances to face so many changes. Not only pregnant lady experiences mental disturbance but also people who are with her may be friends, family or colleagues experience it too. Depression is as serious as it sounds. During pregnancy, before and after delivery these are the stages where you need to take proper care of yourself. Understand firstly what is depression and how you can take precautions for it.

Depression Meaning

It is emotional mental phase. If you are pregnant women, then there are high chances of having depression because in this phase lot of physical and mental changes occurs. You might have heard about pre and post pregnancy depression.

Prenatal Depression

It is a stage before giving birth to child. You will experience insomnia, frequent changes in emotionally and mentally, little bit weight gain, etc.

You can personally look out if it’s prenatal depression or not by observing these symptoms-

  • Changing eating habits
  • Loss of interest in daily activities
  • Crying without any reason
  • Getting feeling of exhausted

Postpartum Depression

After giving birth to a child, 10-20 % of new mothers have chances to get affected by postpartum depression. After delivery, this depression lasts for 2-3 weeks or more.

Postpartum Blues

It also called ‘Baby Blues’. During pregnancy your level of progesterone and estrogen hormone increases. As well as these hormones are linked with mood swings. After giving birth to baby, within 24 to 48 hrs your hormone level drops forcefully. You will start getting symptoms of postpartum blues within 2-3 weeks after delivery. You will feel-

  • Getting irritate by small things
  • Not able to sleep
